Winds of Change..

Who remembers that Scorpions song? Did anyone else slow dance to that one in high school? What great memories I have of that song. Anyhoo, on that note, things are a changin' around here. I'm feeling the way a lot of moms feel I think, trying to get that perfect balance of work and family.. with family hopefully always coming first. It was a few days ago when Cole asked me why I have to be on my computer so much and then Will chimed in and said "yeah mom's always down here in the computer room." Another thing Will has said to me lately was that "mom's don't play, they just work all day, cleaning and computers and pictures - only dad's play." I about turned myself in to social services for being the worst mom on the planet. So this perfect balance of family and work hasn't turned out how I had planned. It's been on my mind ever since Cole was born nearly 7 years ago, (when I started the photog business) and now it's not in the back of my mind, it's ALWAYS pressing in the front of my brain. I don't want my kids to have memories of me on the computer and leaving every night to take pictures when the sun is setting and they are out eating popsicles, riding bikes, laughing.. I want to be there. I really don't want to miss a thing. (thanks Aerosmith) - With ALL that said, starting January '09, I will ONLY be offering Wedding Photography, including engagements and bridals. No more families, babies, children, seniors, etc. I am so sad to say goodbye to my past clients, but it's for my sanity and my children. Maybe in years to come, I'll dive back in.. but for now, I feel if I can still photograph a few weddings a month, I will be able to keep my creative cup full - Thanks for all the kind words and referrals.. I am still happy to give out names of other photographers who are awesome for fam pics - I do have October and November sessions available for anyone who needs family, baby or children portraits, but the sessions are going fast, so contact me if you're interested. Thanks again!

I am so happy for you!!!!! I TOTALLY know the balance thing! Becks cries everyday I have to go to work! I will be so sad along with plenty of others, but GOOD FOR YOU! Hopefully I can drop a few pounds so that I will want anyone to take my pics!

I am sure you will never regret making this decision as children grow up SO fast. Enjoy your time with them as you can always get back to your photography when they get to do what interests them. SO go eat popsicles and ride bike with them !! :) I just hope that that we will still be able to see soem of your work on your blog and website as I go on everyday to see what great photos you have up for the day.

As said before - you are amazing !!

Kind regards,
Gezina Shaw-Butler

My friend,

You are a great example to me! Thanks for your wise insight!

I don't know if I'm in more shock that you're only doing weddings or that Cole is almost 7!! Are we that old?? Where does the time go?

I'm sad there will be no more Slingerland adventures with you at the Bellagio! :(

We better still have our Vegas girl trips though!

Loves.

Oh my dear Haley, I just have to say that I think you are an amazing photographer (like really amazing) but I really do think you are an even more amazing Mom! Your kids are lucky ducks!! Really Cole is 7, really? It was that long ago we were painting his room bright yellow and talking about War-man. Aww the memories!

Good for you Haley...this is Linds Ercanbrack...you took pics of my baby Peyton about 16 months ago. I don't have the heart to take them down...so dang sweet. Just wanted to tell you I think you're an amazing photographer, but even more amazing person to give it up to be with your kids more. Sad my next baby won't get your "touch", but happier for you. Tell Linds I say hi...you are both such cute people!

I am really gald you will still get to do photography at least sometimes.

I loved having a session with you in UT. I loved seeing you work. I want to be you. Oh, just kidding. That sounds rather stalker-ish.

Good job at making the (very difficult) RIGHT choice. Your kids will be thankful when they are 30 or so :)

Gezina, Thanks for always leaving the nicest comments. :) I'll still keep on a postin' photos for sure!

Lisa, Totally under the table pics, I love it!

Lace, Can't wait to see you in November, if not sooner.. let's not talk about Coby getting married yet.

Chu, I'm still planning on trips to the Bellagio and if I "happen" to have my camera with me to snap a few pics, then I guess it happens. :)

Amanda, What?! Totally forgot about the yellow room and Warman.. I'm still up for it if you are. :)

Lindsey, Thanks for leaving a comment, of course I remember you and Peyton.. how are you guys?

Betina, I'm still in shock over your news.. it's amazing how things all work out, isn't it? I'm just glad I was able to meet your sweet family.. more to come! yay!

I emailed you..but I'll take a November slot... ;-)

it is a good choice...

I have an almost 8 year old and I realize that as they get older and their immediate physical needs aren't as great, the emotional ones need more time than I thought....

Crap!! We were waiting for Baby Matt to come along and hit you up...geersh, we're such slow pokes on the family wagon! Well, I do every once in a while poke onto your blog amidst my stalking of all the blog-perfectness of Utah Valley and am continually impressed by your great work. It's been too long since we've all been in touch, so hopefully one of these times we're in town we can work something out! BTW, M is getting in touch with A about a trip to NYC this fall--we'd love you guys to join if you're up for it. If not, no worries. Also--good for you for stepping back for work to be with your family more (even if we will miss out on reaping the benefits of your fabulousness!).

Great decision! This is the reason I don't advertise and I try to keep things small. You'll never regret it!
Babies and families will miss you though!

Hold on.....let me dry the tears from my eyes and blow my nose......just a sec......ok.
MAN! I am so depressed. I am glad you are doing what's best for your family and I stand by your decision 100%. Good for you. I am just sad because I am due January 5th and there will be no magic Haley to capture the little bugger. Oh well, "My heart will go on" right?
You will be missed, I KNOW that.
